Tips From The Pro’s: Sean Conkling on Audio Restoration

Like most of us in the audio industry, I too have my hands in many different projects. When down time does happen, a little T.V. is in order, and with all the crime shows on today, some good blood,guts and oh yeah drama, is not too far away. But so is audio tools being used for forensic science. Just like you have I have seen many a custom computer program out there in T.V. land and then Pro Tools pops up. Sure there are some great audio restoration tools out there. Most have now made there way into ProTools as TDM , RTAS plugins and even as a stand alone program.

Wikipedia defines audio restoration as a generalized term for the process of removing imperfections (such as hiss, crackle, noise and buzz) from sound recordings. Noise Reduction is defined as removing noise from a signal. Audio Restoration options today have grown ten fold vs just a few years ago, due in part to the advancements in computer processing. Here are some of those options.
